World Youth Day 2011

On July 2011, Madrid will witness a sight it has not seen in a long time: thousands, nay, millions of young people not on tourism but on pilgrimage of faith. That year, Madrid will be graced with the presence of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, the Supreme Pastor of the Roman Catholic Church as presides in an encounter with young people from all over in the World Youth Day.

Most young people attending are Catholics but the event is open to all religious denominations and even agnostics. “Everyone will be welcomed with a spirit of with respect, affection, and brotherhood,” Cardinal Antonio María Rouco Varela, head of the WYD preparations insisted. “The Truth is proposed, not imposed,” he emphasized, paraphrasing Pope John Paul II.

Tanglaw hopes to join this celebration with a delegation of its own. To prepare the possible delegates, a series of activities has been lined up.

Palawan.

Mere mention of the name evokes fantastic images: historical sights, cultural experiences, wonderful beaches, eco-tourism spots for diving, snorkeling, trekking or just simple nature-tripping.  But like in almost all the more than 7000 islands of the Philippines, not all is perfect here. There are pockets of people needing assistance in many ways.

Make the best out of your summer. Volunteer!

Voluntourism hopes to address this. Organized by Tanglaw in collaboration with two other study centers, Balanghai and Iraya, volunteers will trek to Bgy. Tagburos , Puerto Princesa, on the 5th to the 10th of April for a different kind of adventure: repainting of the local school, conduct a leadership seminar, give reading tutorials and teach the basics of the faith to kids. Tourism has never been as enriching!

Language Lab

It wouldn’t be incorrect to affirm that speech is of the essence for humanity. No dialogue, no progress. On the personal level or in society, it fuels growth by facilitating understanding. It helps people connect with the past and map out a common future. But dialogue cannot be possible without a common language.

Tanglaw recognizes this and designed the Language Lab for this summer.  Take your pick of the classic Latin, the cosmopolitan French or the rich Castilian language of Spain.

Learn from language experts using modern techniques and interactive methods. Classes are scheduled from April 24-28, May 3-8 and 15 to 22 at a time convenient for the participants.

Fee is pegged at Php 2500 with a discount of Php 200 for early birds who pay on or before March 31. Contact Pia at 0915-4101937 for more info. #

IN BRIEF

When Tanglaw University Center opened its doors in 1967, there was the conviction that learning was a lifelong process, that it involved the total development of a person, and that it was well worth the investment.
